Years Have Sped By

Poems

Say You Are Not Old

Say not, when the leaves fall,
"Soon all the years will have passed" . . .
When budding flowers and leaves burst,
Huddle close to it all . . .

If your spirit is young,
Reach out toward the new spring . . .
Undaunted, with boldness,
You've reached a life that is joyous!

If you spread only joy, --
Do not dwell on suffering, or gloom,
Though your span shortens the while, --
Greet it all-with a smile! . . .

Is your heart filled with love?
And with friends you are blessed
Don't dwell on unhappiness . . .
You'll be loved and considered for this . . .

And if the nights seem too long for you
And the days -- exceedingly short . . .
Do not feel any regret,
Use this time your spirit to renew.

Sing a song each day . . .
Smile -- be jocose . . .
Even when with dust-pan and with broom, --
Only merry songs compose!
